So get rifles with same barrel length, and same bullets and the 7mm Rem. Mag. carries 4 to 5 grains more powder, which translates to more fps. and energy. Down range, the clear winner is the 7mm Rem. Mag.

I love the 444 Marlin but I like levers anyhow, have a bunch of them from 357 to 454, the 444 Marlin and a BLR 30/06. I also have 2 450 Bushmasters, an AR and a Ruger American. Those 2 smoke those lever guns except the BLR but when you load the Ruger American (bolt gun) to 45 Raptor ballistics that's another story. The 444 is a freezer filler if you want a lever then the Marlin 1895 is the ticket, mine is great and on par with my 20" Rossi in 454 Casull (and my 450 Bushmasters. You can't really tell the difference in the cartridges but IMHO the Marlin is just a higher quality rifle and makes mounting an optic a breeze. The 454 is nice because I have a Ruger SRH in the same caliber and with the 20" barrel on the Rossi I load a 225gr Hornady FTX to 2200, formidable. Personally I wouldn't look twice at a 45/70, even with the newer loadings those other big bores are just faster, flatter shooting and hit harder in those bullet weights up to 300gr. Where the 45/70 shines is when you want a heavy bullet, with the case capacity you can shoot 500 gr bullets and up, can't do that with the others but I'm only popping whitetails not buffalo.

Grew in Alberta. Our family killed all game with 30-30s for decades. All the city boys think it's a weak choice. They no little about bullets or carrying a 6lb levergun in the woods 5 miles. Nothing better. It is the hunting rifle one needs. Moose Elk Deer Bear etc. Just keep it under 200yds. My 788 30-30 I picked up this year will get plenty of airtime this Fall.

Awesome video showing the versatility of the venerable 308 Win. I sadly have never owned one but I am highly interested in it because of that versatility and under 500 yard terminal performance on game. Plus ammo availability and price vs most other cartridges. Easy to load for if I want to. I also plan on getting a suppressor and 308 would be perfect for that. A breakdown of the Shorty 308 build would be interesting 🤔 Outside of the REM 760 Pump, you can find 6.5 Creedmoor in all of those platforms but I still have a spot for the old 308 over the 6.5 CM.

I've been AIWB a form of Glock since just before the Gen 4 guns came out. I've been through almost all the other quality poly guns, with the exception of FN, Canik and another I can't think of. None of them pulled me from the Glock. The other huge factor is parts replacement...with my local fun shops, I can rebuild all my Glocks several times over with the parts already in place. The support just can't be beat.

First things first...aim for a grizzly's mouth / upper neck, not the brow which is angled and more likely to deflect a bullet. The bear's brain is protected by thick bone whereas an open jaw / neck is an unobstructed path to the brain stem / spinal cord. If you factor in the startle factor of a charging bear closing the gap at 20+mph most people would be lucky to get off 1 or 2 shots. Make em count. 10mm's 700ft/lbs of energy also creates a ballistic pressure wave in soft tissue that can incapacitate the bear's CNS remotely, providing a bigger margin of effectiveness.

When I became a police officer in the late '80s we were issued a S&W m586 with a 6" barrel. I quickly replaced it with a personal S&W 681 4", which had been modified to a round-butt and the LAPD/NYPD Double Action only lockwork. I carried a S&W 442 Air weight as my BUG in an Alessi shoulder rig. When we went to auto pistols, the 442 was still riding as back-up. I still have the 681 and the 442 and sometimes carry the 442. I shot expert in qualifying with the 586 and 681 and won PPC matches with the 586. Properly trained in their use and with regular practice, the trigger can be managed and they are accurate. While I never got to the level of Miculek I could reload quickly with speed loaders. I didn't consider myself under-gunned with a revolver. With six in the gun and 12 on my belt, I felt ready to deal with most situations. However, when one of our own was murdered by a psycho on a killing spree who rushed the officer while he was reloading his S&W M27, we pushed for authorization to carry autos. Before we issued them - Glock 22s and 23s - I opted for the .45 ACP Glock 21. With 40 rounds - 13+1 in the gun and two mags on my belt (even in plainclothes)as well as a box in my briefcase, I felt ready for whatever might come. Today, with new and better ammo, I EDC a GLock 19 or 26, with a second magazine.
